Slow Cooker Winter Sangria

2 bottles dry red wine, such as Malbec or Spanish Rioja

1 1/2 cups brandy

1/2 cup fresh orange juice 

1/2 cup fresh pomegranate juice

1 cup simple syrup (see note below)

1 Tbsp This Little Goat went to India 

2 apples; cored and diced

2 pears; cored and diced

1/4 cup pomegranate arils 

1 orange, thinly sliced into rounds


Add the wine, brandy, orange and pomegranate juices, simple syrup, India spice and apple and pear chunks to the bowl of a 6-quart slow cooker.  Whisk to combine. Cover and cook on high for about 1 hour, until warm and the flavors have melded.

 Top with orange slices and pomegranate arils before serving. Keep warm on low heat or warm setting until ready to serve.

Goat Note: to make simple syrup, simmer 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water in a medium saucepan, whisking constantly, until the sugar is completely dissolved. Let cool completely before using
